Binoculars, How to choose!
<>>
Keep in mind that binoculars are two identical telescopes mounted side-by-side.This allows the user greater depth and distance than is using a monocular (single-tubetelescope) What makes the binocular so much more attractive is that it gives more of a 3-demensional look. It also gives more comfort in viewing than the monocular style.Remember that larger binoculars usually are more uncomfortable to hold and thus may be harder otkeep steady when viewing. Also keep in mind that outdoor viewing causesreflection and this can be reduced by applying an optical coating to the lens, This alsohelps protect against the harmful UV-A rays. A coating material highly used ismagnesium fluoride.
tip The magnification must be chosen to meet your needs, keeping in mind that the higher themagnification, the more hand shake you will generally have. This is do to the fact that larger lensesusually weigh more.
Usually for general purpose, the 8 x 40 is a good number combination to use.
If you are going to use it at night, you may want to go to a 7 x 50 which will give
you a brighter night use.
However, buying high-quality optics usually requires spending $350 and up. If your
budget means going less, than try going for a 7x or 8x because lowcost 10x models
seem to have a poor image quality. Keep in mind that these are high priced instrumentsand range in price from, $50 to the thousands of dollars.
tip
Optic quality is more important than the numbers (7 x 30 or 10 x 50 for example)
A 7 x 30 better binocular will prove to be better than a 10 x 30 in a not so good brand name. This is a case where brand is important. If you are planning on bird watching, while camping, you may want to take that into considerationwhen purchasing your binoculars. A true bird watcher usually prefers their binoculars to have adistance of less than 10 feet. Many a bird watcher think that 8x is the way to go.
Than again, if you are into butterflies, look at a 5 foot or less. For camping, and hiking go with something lightweight
rather small and tough.
tip
Just to repeat:
Optic quality is more important than the numbers (7 x 30 or 10 x 50 for example)
Options to consider: First off, look at your use---- If you feel there is a chance of your binoculars getting wet, think about thewaterproof and fog proof style. Granted, the cost maybe more, however compared to having to purchase anew pair, it just maybe worth it. Second tinted lenses, they help block out UV rays and allow for more comfortable use.
What do the numbers mean?
For example: 8 x 32 the first number is the magnification number. The 32 is the diameter of the lens. A larger lens would be used for low lighting. If the magnification number is too large, it can cause a view that is unclear.
Keeping in mind that price is always a factor, these are options to consider. Such things as lens type,
lens coating, getting glass for plastic. Although adding to the price, glass provides a clear view. Keep in
mind also that glass will add weight. So you will need to consider and balance your options for
Binoculars
while keeping your pricing limits in mind.
As an alternative you may want to go with a digital binocular. The cost is less and they maybe good enough for casual use.To
