Cooking gear to provide a fun time

Cooking gear is a must for cooking in the great outdoors. My suggestion here is to look at the camp ware sets. These usually include Kettles, saucepans, fry pans, and maybe a roaster or dinner plates. It all depends on the set you get. Remember to look for value! A grate source for this if Open country, they make a great product and it is very popular. We sold a lot of them as an outdoor distributor with no complaints. They also provide a great varity.

The cutlery you can pick up almost anywhere. However if you want it to last longer than one or two uses consider lexan quality. This stuff is tough and we sold a lot of it. It is lighter weight than metal and I would say that it is stronger.

Keep in mind the blue camp ware sets don’t look as nice when they are chipped and they do chip. You may want to consider stainless steel or aluminum even though it maybe more expensive. Look at length of use and your budget when making your decision.

Look for items that stack or fold up to save on space. An item often over looked but well worth the price is a lid lifter. It saves the hands and makes cooking more enjoyable. Some items to consider or to add as you go along-----coffee pots, expresso makers, cutting boards, utility boxes for storing left overs and keeping items fresh. Also non-stick griddles.

Than there is the dutch oven, this item comes in various types. This oven is very versatile. Rememeber, if you get the cast iron one, it will be heavy. However, it also will probably retain the heat better and more evenly. Plus you have the strength and durability this baby brings with it. I know some experienced outdoor chefs who bake in these as well. Of course, you need a feel for how hot to have the coals. I have deteremined that you need to be a experienced outdoor cooking guy to work with these things. You know the coals on top of the cover proper heat etc..That kind of excludes me, I will stick with the brats and burgers and maybe a beer.:):):) Don't forget the pie iron, if you don't have one get one. This little handy item will become one of your favorites. Made of cast iron or aluminum we sold a bunch of these as a distributor. With a little trial and error you can make your own personal pizza. Heat left overs-----use your imagination.

The reflector oven is another way to go. Useing some trial and error you can bake anything. These are made of polished steel or aluminum It works by reflecting the heat around the food. Try to maintain an even heat.

I know we mentioned the tripod grill before butit is adandy item to use and is so versatile. If you are like me, one item you don't want to forget is the coffee pot. Usually make of rust free aluminum, it fits nicely on the tripod grill we jsut talked about. You can even get a miniexpresso maker if that's more you style. Isn't camping fun? Just a reminder not to forget the basics such as paper towel, garbage bags, utensils----forks, spoons, tongs, measuring cups, bowls, dish cloths, drinking cups and the like.

Also don't forget to clean the coolers to deep the pests away. Usually 1 tsp of bleach to 1 qt. of water will do the trick. Than let dry.

P.S. Don't forget to make some s'mores----what would camping be without s'mores?

Recipe: graham cracker marshmellow chocolate Roast the marshmellow with a stick---when golden brown, put on cracker cover with chocolate and top with rest of cracker. Enjoy!!!!
