Sleeping Bags make outdoors sleeping fun

What to look for

When looking for a sleeping bag, first decide on how you plan to use it Such as:

Will it be summer or winter? Where do you plan to use your rough terrine or parks, maybe the beach? Whatever or wherever, give it some thought.

When do you plan to use your

Sleeping bag complaints that I have as well as those of customers (merchants) that we sold to. The zippers have a tendency to stick and are not easy to use, especially for the kids. Look for one that is easy to repair if need be and that works easy so the kids can use it easily, especially if it is their bag.It probably is a good idea to check to see if the bag has anti-snag tape to prevent this from happening. At that time maybe also check to see if the bag has a draft tube. This is a tube filled with insulation to keep drafts out of the bag. Oh while I think of it, don't forget to look for storage pockets for those things that you want to keep near at night.

If it is for winter camping or just your preference, you may want to make sure it has a hood. If you plan to camp in cooler weather or winter, check to see if the bag closes at the neck. This will help retain your heat.Than remember that some bags can be zipped together, however you need right and left zippers.Than there is the double sleeping bag, it could prove to be fun, I'm tslking 2 peopleIf it is for winter camping or just your preference, you may want to make sure it has a hood. Make sure the bag provides ample room to move around in especially your legs and feet.

Check to see if the bag provides a lip or wind cover for the zipper area. (Also known sometimes as a draft tube.).

Picking a bag

The best clue I can give you here is think of the coldest temperature you plan to experience. Than look for a comfort range for that temperature. If you are not sure, go warmer to play it safe.

As for bags, Down is the warmest and probablye the lightest. However the synthetic bags are less expensive. The new synthetic bags provide excellent warmth and are usually more resistent to wet weather. If you expect your bag to get wet, consider a water repellent bag. As for the comfort rating we talked about above. Usually the comfort rating is the coldest temperature the bag is judged to keep you warm.( Keep in mind personal preferences as some people prefer cooler temperatures than others).

Let's say for example the bag is rated 30F. This suggests that the majority of people would be comfortable when the temperature goes down to 30%F. Of course these ratings will very by manufacture. When looking at bags, check to see if these ratings reflect using a sleeping pad or not. There is definite difference. So keep that in mind. If you are planning on using a pad and I think you should because it is a good idea for you and your bag. Also keep in mind that these numbers are not cast in stone but should be used merely as a guide.

You should also keep in mind your activity level. May I suggest that you consider a good bag liner as they can protect you as well as your bag. If you do use one, that can also affect your comfort range so keep that in mind.

To sleep warm

Use a bag that fits. Wear the correct amount of clothes. If you need to add clothes, your bag may not be right for the conditions. Use a liner, to protect your bag and provide warmth for you. Wear a hat(the old saying about losing heat throught your head applies here) Exercise-- to get your body warm. Use a sleeping pad.
