Sunblock letters and numbers can be a bit tricky. Most sunblock experts recommend using at least a number 15. The SPF number represents the sunburn protection level that you are at. Example: if you are talking SPF 8 you should be blocking about 75% of the suns UV rays, SPF 15 we are talking about 93 % blockage, and the SPF 30 blocks around 97% SPF 4 next to nothing, burn baby burn -: ) -: ) ( just kidding, not recommended)

Which sunscreen should you use?

The numerous products on the market can make it very difficult and confusing.

You must keep in mind that sunscreen does not provide you with total protection. Don'tforget that things like water,snow, and the like can increase you exposure to UV rays. In this case you should consider increasing SPF levels to 45 or more especially on you nose and lips. Sunblock usually is made up of Titanium Dioxide and zinc Oxide. Some companies will use supplements such as Aloe Vera, Vitamin E and C as well other oils. Now as for the numbers and letters:

What does SPF stand for?

It stands for Sun Protection Factor. The higher the number the better the protection. If for example you burn in 20 minuts and are using SPF 15 coverage. This should allow you to stay out in the sun 15 times longer. However, you must take into account the various outside factors such as swimming presperation etc.

mountsin view Talking about lips, don’t forget to use sun screen on them, there is nothing worse than sunburned lips. It doesn’t help kissing much either, ( just kidding). A SPF of about 15 or higher should be considered.

Remember to look to see if the product is hypoallergenic if that is a factor in your case.

It is also recommended that you apply sunscreen approximately 20 to 30 minutes before you head outdoors. Than reapplying about every 2 hours. Keep in mind that if you are swimming or the heat causes heavy perspiring that you need to check you coverage more often.

Also remember that sunscreen rubs off when using a towel to dry off.

Sunscreen labeled waterproof doesn't last forever. Usually 80 to 90 minutes and the onew saying they are water resistant, last even less. The life of most sunscreen products have a shelf life of 2 to 3 years, so check the label. Also see repellents for additional information
