Eating outdoors provides many choices

Eating outdoors will take some thought. What to eat, will you cook it or just heat it up?

Eating outdoors today allows you many choices. Such as if you are coming with a minivan, suv, or maybe the large camping unit with its stove, shower, and indoor plumbing, tvs and the like. You may bring frozen burgers, salads, pasta dishes, and neat desserts. If for example, you are a backpacker, you will need to carry your grubwith you and it had better be as light as possible. Such things as a backpacker grill-small and light. Maybe a tinystove with a limited amount of fuel so you can deep the weight down. The interesting thing is, that in today's day and age, thebackpacker using little thought and planning can eat meals that are every bit as good and satisfying as their motorized counterpart. When eating outdoors, some campers prepare meals from dried food that is dehydrated. Still others go to stores and purchase ready made meals that canbe made in a few minutes by putting it in hot water to re-hydrate it. When doing theses things, keep in mind that there is aprice to all of this and some ways are more costly than others. Also keep ing mind that all this dehydrated food is notalways as good as the fellow in store says it is. It all depends on how hungry you are:):):)

Tip:

It maybe a good idea to write down the cooking instructions and keep them in a place where you can find them.A good way is to put them right in the plastic bag so it can easily be found when needed.

Tip:

You may also want to double bag the food to help prevent animals from getting to it. This should cut down the smell and if you hang your food in anear by tree, this will help you also. I think hanging food is an art, one gained with experience. There are manyarticles written about it and well worth your while to check them out.

If you need spices and the like, sugar for cereals etc.. using small sealable plastic bags or film containers for the spices works well.

Tip:

Most backpackers I talked to try to use 1 pound of food per person per day. Try to separate the meals, dinners in one, desserts in another, and breakfasts in another.
